🔥 THE LATEST THINGS

  • Guy Raz now owns How I Built This, and the show is leaving NPR for Vox Media. Vox will handle sales, marketing, distribution and live events, video episodes start on YouTube this fall, and the deal terms weren't disclosed. A host who built his name inside public radio walks out as the owner. TheWrap

  • Jubilee and CNN are teaming up on an Oct. 14 town hall with Texas Senate candidate James Talarico. CNN's Erin Burnett does the interview, and it airs on CNN first, then goes to Jubilee's YouTube channel (11 million subscribers). Each side is borrowing something the other has. The Publish Press

  • OpenAI hired Patreon co-founder Sam Yam to lead creator products. 👀 The Publish Press

  • Growth in Reverse estimates Heather Cox Richardson's newsletter brings in at least $1 million a month. That's an estimate (roughly 200,000 paying subscribers at $5 a month), not a disclosed figure, and the piece notes she takes no sponsorships. Read it as the ceiling, not a benchmark. Growth in Reverse

  • CJR on Richard LA, the TikTok creator shot by a U.S. marshal during an ICE arrest in October 2025. A federal judge dismissed the assault charges against Carlitos Ricardo Parias in December 2025, but he has been held at an ICE facility for more than 300 days and his immigration case is on appeal. A press-safety story for people with no employer to call a lawyer. CJR

  • Informed Earth is taking applications for a free, six-month climate journalism network. It's open to reporters and editors worldwide, including people who cover climate from other beats, and the first cohort starts in January. Applications close Nov. 1. Thanks to Kaitlyn Arford for sharing it. Informed Earth

How this newsletter is made: A human (hi, it's Liz 👋) writes, edits and makes every editorial call here. I use Claude, Anthropic's AI assistant, as a research tool – each week it sweeps my sources and assembles the first draft of the links roundup. Every link and every word gets a human read before it reaches you.
